Accuracy and Barrel

Today, we will be introducing to ourselves a new and a must word for us that we will be using most of the times.

and that word is "sweet spot"

now, the sweet spot, is not too much, not too less. With this, we are pointing out, on what they call "its on the right spot" or "its just perfect".

In Airsoft, there are ALOT of us which decides to go extreme. Extreme fps, Extreme ROF and so on. That is why most of the time, we forget the important thing called BALANCE. 

In this topic. we will be talking about "sweet spot" of an AEG barrel.

There are a lot of upgrades in the market with AEG Barrels. We upgrade our barrel to increase FPS or to make our shot accurate, but there are so much of what we can choose from and we usually go to our extremities. We confuse ourselves with what inner diameter of barrel we have to buy without having the right knowledge of it.

Lets figure out the market today.

The stock barrel commonly comes in 6.08 inner diameter. Most of us think that this is too wide, that is why we want to buy tight bore and we think that it is the proper solution to it. 

The tightest barrel in the market is EdGi Barrel which is 5.98 inner diameter. WOW. thats alot of fps gain! but the truth is, it will be too tight for all the air to be stable. we have to remember that this is EXTREME, although it could be helpful, the sweet spot is not defined by extreme!

Now, while its true that the tighter the bore is, the higher the fps will gain, it does not mean that it will increase your range and accuracy. NOT MOST OF THE TIME!

In choosing the right barrel, we have to go for the "sweet spot". not too tight, not too wide. and this is where 6.05 barrels comes in.

And i will explain you why 6.05 is the best barrel you could go with.

1. Although barrel bounce in tight bore barrel is not yet concluded and proven, its always safe to ELIMINATE the risk. Barrel bounce disturbs the BB spin thus reducing its maximum FPS output, range and ultimately making your shots innacurate.

2. Most of the people argue which is better, tight bore, or wide bore. Having 6.05 puts us in the middle of 6.08(or 6.2) and 5.98(or 6.01) which leaves us in peace. nobody to argue with because we are not ONE SIDED. or simply we are on the SWEET SPOT.

3. In rules of Aerodynamics, air does go around round objects. this gives us the advantage of having air going around the BB and keeping it on the center while not losing our FPS with wide bore( specially 6.2 that would drag your fps down by 50 - 80+). 

4. If ever there are small debris on the barrel, it would not disturb the BBs as much as the 6.01, thus preventing it from jamming.

In short, we are tightening our barrel to increase our FPS yet letting it still a bit wide to let the BB spin that was created by the hop up.
Too tight might disturb the backspin of the BB.
Too wide and we might lose alot of FPS boost.

There are few conclusions that tight bores works good with CQB type barrels, and extreme long ranges works best with wider bore.

And for those who uses M4 platforms that sits on the middle of CQB and snipers, the best ones are ofcourse the 6.05s. but if you are on cqb or long ranges, you can still stick to 6.05 because of its sweet spot.

But big part of the key of your accuracy is your HOP UP. The best ones ofcourse are R-hop and Flat hop, But its not necessary that you do it. because these modifications are for pros. You can make this perform good as long as you set up your hop up right.

now, your hop up needs to work with your barrel. that is the key to accuracy.
